Match the calculation to your viewpoint
A local sunset time is based on coordinates and a standard horizon. Use the map when your beach, overlook or event venue is away from the town center. The direction card shows where the Sun reaches that horizon, measured clockwise from true north.
A west-facing view is not always enough. The sunset point shifts north and south with the seasons. A headland, neighboring building or ridge may block the Sun before the listed sunset, while an elevated open viewpoint can extend the view.
Decide when your evening should begin
For direct low-angle light, prepare during the evening golden hour. On this site the window runs from +6° to −4° solar altitude, so it includes some time after sunset. That later portion is twilight and does not promise direct sunlight on your subject.
For city lights against a blue sky, check blue hour. For a walk or outdoor meal, compare sunset with civil dusk and consider the actual surroundings. For dark-sky observing, astronomical dusk is more relevant, though it does not account for the Moon or light pollution.
Check conditions without confusing them with timing
The weather card describes current model conditions at the selected location. It can help you assess current cloud, wind and precipitation, but it is not a sunset-color forecast. High cloud, a clear gap on the horizon and lower cloud can affect a scene differently even when total cloud cover is similar.
Changing the selected date updates the solar calculation, not the date of the weather card. For another evening, use an appropriate forecast as well as the solar times.
Keep the selected place current
The site can remember the last place chosen in this browser. If you are traveling, request your location again or select the new destination. Search and map selection remain available when you decline geolocation permission.
A place name returned for a map point may describe the nearest locality. The solar calculation follows the selected coordinates, so a nearby label does not necessarily mean the pin has moved to that town center.
Frequently asked questions
Is sunset near me based on my IP address?
The theme does not calculate your exact position from your IP address. It starts with its default or saved place. The location button requests a browser-provided position; search and map selection let you choose manually.
Will sunset be the same across my county?
Not exactly. Latitude and longitude vary across the area, and local horizons can vary much more. Select a specific place when timing or photographic alignment matters.
Does a sunset time guarantee I can see the Sun?
No. The result assumes a standard horizon. Clouds, fog, hills and buildings may obscure the Sun. Check the direction and local conditions before choosing a viewpoint.
How do I check sunset this weekend?
Select the destination, then choose the relevant date. For several evenings, use the seven-day table or the monthly calendar. The current weather panel is not a weekend forecast.
